While most Atlantic hurricanes strike the U.S. in August, September or October, hurricane season officially begins June 1 and ends November 30.
This year’s outlook, according to extended range forecast from researchers at Colorado State University, is for eight hurricanes, four of which could be Category 3 or above. This is more active than the 1981-2010 average and is based on 38 years of data.
